The “Not” Message Board

On the old reunion website we had a message board. Until I can figure out how to create a new one I have simply copied the old posts and brought them across here. Of course you can always add a comment to the end of any page.

Welcome to the message board for the planned 30 year reunion of the 1976 Year 12 students of Narrabeen High School, Cromer High School & associated 1974 Year 10 of Narrabeen Boys High and Narrabeen Girls High

You’ve probably been trying really hard to forget that it has been 30 years since we combined our schools, went co-ed and sat the HSC.  And you might have been trying just as hard to avoid being tracked down for an event such as this.

Well, now that we’ve found you, we’re hoping you’ll get with the mood and be a part of what we hope will be a fantastic trip down memory lane. Or just a nolstagia moment too good to miss!

We plan to make a big effort to try and get a good crowd there. We want to see not only the people who managed to get there ten years ago but those we haven’t seen all this time as well.

Please read this proposed programme.
Last planning meeting is on the 22nd October 2006.
I hope you can attend the 30 year reunion and that you bring along a few more of your Narrabeen or Cromer 1974/1976 friends. Please tell everybody it’s on.
Please start organising pre-reunion and post reunion activities now e.g. Friday or Saturday Golf or Tennis event and a recovery BBQ or similar family activity. Nothing confirmed yet.
Narrabeen/Cromer 30 Year Re-union
25th November 2006
Proposed Programme. The people who have come to the organising meetings have put this forward as a likely course for the night to take.
It is not set in concrete and I added a bit after the meeting.
7 for 7:30 p.m.
Catching up, Relaxing, Getting settled, finding your comfort zones; pre-dinner drinks; drinking competitions and whatever you are into on the night.
Formalities
7:30 – ASAP
• Welcome. The master of ceremonies will start the evening with a greeting and hopefully set the tone for the rest of the night.
• Brief Speeches from people who want to make brief speeches. Some of us may like to do this, others may think that this is the last thing that they would ever want to do so in an attempt to be fair all who attend may like to make a speech to tell everybody who they are and whatever else they can fit into a minute. (Long sentence hey!) If you would like speak please nominate yourself to Lynne put your name on the list so the m/c can call your name out at the time.
• Various Icebreakers – If we want them.
• Tribute to those who have left this mortal coil. Hopefully your name will not be on that list, and, for that matter, mine neither. Unfortunately the list will inevitably grow so that could be motivation to make sure you come to this reunion.
First Course – Food
Activities
To state the bleedin’ obvious; the main activity for the night will be catching up with people from school who you haven’t seen for ages.
How we will do this on the night is up to us and there will be a couple of different activities to help make it fun too.
Second Course – More Food
Awards
An important part of every get together is recognising one another’s achievements. There will be several awards presented on the night.
If you can think of deserving winners for them and/or more categories of achievement please send them to me.
Music – representative of the era. Any songs you think are appropriate please tell me or Lynne.
Nostalgia Stuff: Photos seem to be the thing the Narrabeen Boys are unable to supply. If you have any from school please scan them and send them to me or Lynne.
Please fill out the questionnaire Lynne sent you so we can get it organised for the night too.
If you made it to this part thanks. Hope you can make it to Narrabeen RSL on the 25th November 2006.

Ok, I am absolutely brand new at this so I hope it works! You are welcome to use this site to post info on suggestions, people you have tracked down (send me their contact details and I will add them to the list) and volunteer for tasks to get this show on the road. This gig will be as big or small as we want it to be and clearly Jeff is shooting for the moon! I look forward to helping make this happen and to seeing you all a hell of a lot sooner than we think. (God the years seem to fly don’t they?) If I get my scanner up and running any time soon I will put some old school pics that I have. Feel free to email me with anything of interest.LynneLast Edited Lynne on 3-May-2006 3:36 PM

Re: 30 years after Narrabeen High School
I am hoping we can have a celebration that is different from other re-unions we may have attended.
No reason why we couldn’t go a bit further up the road from Newport Pub – ” The Royal Motor Yacht Club” is a suggestion.
The more the merrier.
Please contact Lynne if you want to contribute to the planning or running. Even making contact is a start.
I think we can have a great time of it if we get a bit of energy into setting it up correctly.
I think it needs to be something grand. Not your regular low key event.
Make it fun and full on. Entertainment, a band even, we could even stipulate a dress code, or is that getting over the top? Thongs only – with black tie.
A quick brainstorm reveals we need the following:
1.. A venue; (RYMC??)
2.. A date;
3.. List of surviving students;
4.. List of surviving teachers, if there are any who want to come;
5.. Press releases writing;
6.. A music co-ordinator; Band???
7.. A menu planner;
8.. Financials – Funding and collection after setting a price per head;
9.. Invitations;
10.. Advertising;
11.. After party preparations;
12.. Photograph collection point;
13.. Momento production;
14.. Guest speakers;
15.. Activities for the night rather than just sitting around being boring talking about the good old times and whatever, but of course one can also do that too;
16.. Miscellaneous stuff like … you can add it if ytou think of it.
If nothing happens it is becasue we didn’t do anything.
Hope to see you at a re-union.

Hi all.Peter Butler here. Hey Jeff havent seen you for a few years.I did get an email from Lynn on the school friends site. I gather thats how my email address made it on the list. Sounds like a great idea for a reunion. I missed the last one. Havent seen anybody really for years. But I have caught up with a few old friends in the past few years. I met somebody from the past, my first love happened to be the first girl I kissed and we are together again after many years. We are getting married at the end of the year. Ill pass this over to her now and she can say a few words.
Hi guys, this is Lisa Kalfas, formerly Colbert. I told Peter how good the last reunion was and we would love to see everyone again. We live up Lake Macquarie way now but come to Sydney regularly. I am still in touch and see my girlfriends such as Jenny Lumsdaine, Michelle Glur, Pippy Englert and they are in touch with some others. If you want me to find out who is interested in a reunion and any ideas, I can do so. My email is lisakal@telpacific.com.au.
Let me know if we can help.
cheers
Lisa

Hi all,Jeff, you seem to have covered off all the main items that we need to consider.My suggestions would be:-

1.. A venue; (RYMC??)

– Narrabeen RSL has been booked. Not as flash I know but we keep the ticket price down and use the money to make the night more interesting in other ways

2.. A date;

– Venue has been booked for November 25th

3.. List of surviving students;

– We are making great progress on this but more still needs to be done. We need lots of detective work to be done,

4.. List of surviving teachers, if there are any who want to come;

– we have a teacher in our midst who is going to approach the teacher’s federation to try to get in touch with some of our old teachers

5.. Press releases writing;

– Jeff, you old scholar you. I think this is right up your alley!

6.. A music co-ordinator; Band???

– Or, a DJ playing all our old ’70’s favourites! Emmanuel’s Bowie, Ted’s Eagles, Brad’s Lynard Skynard, Lauron’s Beach Boys

7.. A menu planner;

The venue will cater for the food

8.. Financials – Funding and collection after setting a price per head;

– We have set a ticket price at $50 per head covers the cost of the venue, a DJ and food. The more people who commit to coming the more we can do to make the night an occasion to remember

9.. Invitations;

– Are in the design process

10.. Advertising;

– Word of mouth has been working well so far but we need to place some notices in some selected newspapers

11.. After party preparations;

– I’m not sure what Jeff means by this but perhaps he is looking for a dispenser of hangover cures

12.. Photograph collection point;

– As for photos, it appears that we may have located someone who would be a good candidate to approach to help us with photography on the night. We would also like to ask anyone who takes their own photos on the night to share them with us so that we can circulate them.

13.. Momento production;

– We have some ideas for a momento which would include photos, video and content from the questionnaires all on a DVD. We will need someone who can edit video and do commercial burning of DVD’s to help us with this. (It would probably take me a year to burn 200 DVD’s on my laptop!) We will offer these for sale to cover the cost of producing and mailing them.

14.. Guest speakers;

– Let’s check out NHS web-site and see what famous faces pop up. I know Mark Warren and Nat Young are listed but their appearance fees might be a little high. I have also discovered a couple of possibles from within our ranks.

15.. Activities for the night rather than just sitting around being boring talking about the good old times and whatever, but of course one can also do that too;

– We’ve got some ideas coming in and I think they’re going to be good

16.. Miscellaneous stuff like … you can add it if you think of it.

Hello Everyone!Scarey stuff this 30 year reunion. I went to the 10 year Narrabeen Girls High Reunion and that was scarey enough! I am in Brisbane now and have connections with Yvette nee Garratt who has connections to quite a few of the old Narrabeeners. I have thought of others you don’t have on that list. Jeff Patterson…Mandy Greneger? His girlfriend. Christine Anthony. Geez drawn a blank now. They were all at Cromer. Gazillions more at Narrabeen, Lyn Tucker, Suen Groenendyk, Debbie Williams, Jenny Hunt.Anyway, It should be really cool. Venue? Mmmm we will all be spread out I would think by now, but I guess “if you build it they will come” just kidding.

Yvette has contacted back by the way Lynn so hopefully she will network with her contacts…she is now an ‘EVENT MANAGER” HUH? HUH? Am I good or what?

Talk soon

Howdy Every OneI want to thank Lynne, Jeff, Peter & Lisa for getting this reunion together.I had lunch with Boyd Jackson today, we haven’t seen each other since we were 12/13ish?? It was by coincidence that we met up and not because of the reunion idea… which is kinda freaky but, I filled him in on what is happening on the 25/11.. We are both living on the Sunshine Coast, Boyd came up with a great activity idea that runs a little like “speed dating” in that we have a 5 minute conversation with every person at the reunion (before some of us may get pissed), this way we can connect and spark memories & hopefully place people we don’t recognise after 30 years! (Thought you might like this idea Jeff} Maybe we can come up with a way to compile info from these conversations & create something to take with us… maybe a video with a little something from everyone, then onto a DVD?
We spoke a little about the nature of memory and shared some stuff… mostly about Elanora Primary School & our memories of other kids & the grounds of the school & the stuff we got up to, and what a great place we grew up in.
Any how it will be good to catch up and for those of us that left the area a long time ago we will be happy playing “look what it looks like now”
If anyone living on or near the Sunshine Coast or Brissie wants to get together please email me : mckeachrocket@bigpond.com
see ya

Hello there
The Queensland contingent are mobilising to come to Sydney in November. That includes Ros, Ken, Christine, Les, Stuart Beakey and Richard Echarri so far. Do you have an MC yet??? One of us has considerable experience and is happy to help if need be.
Meanwhile, could someone please post a photo of 6B at Elanora, and more photos from the boys’ high school.
Cheers from the Sunshine Coast.

Hi all,
All you guys from Qld great to hear your coming down. The last time i heard from you Ken was a cigar in the post. Remember that? I cannot rememeber any school photos being taken at the Narrabeen Academy for Young Gentlemen . Does anyone? One good photo I can remember being taken was at Stuart Beacky’s wedding at the pub. We were all standing on the stairs. I thought I had a copy but cannot find it. Does anyone have that one?

Hi Emanuel,Send me the photos and I will upload them for you. Also check out another site I have just come across called Flickr, a photo sharing site which looks like it might be perfect for sharing our photos, particularly as I would hope that there will be lots of cameras there at the reunion. The address is www.flickr.com and the group is called Narrabeen & Cromer – 30 Years On. I am trying to work out a way to invite people en masse rather than three at a time especially since I don’t have broadband!looking forward to getting them.
